ROAD DIRECTIONS TO AVIATION MUSEUM AT RAND AIRPORT Updated 14 June 2009
From Johannesburg city drive on M2 East motorway:
Towards Germiston until Geldenhuis interchange
Take N3 South to DURBAN – sharp left hand bend
Then continue as from 3. below
From Pretoria area drive on N1 South and then N3 South:
1. Drive straight through Gillooly’s interchange on N3 South to DURBAN
2. Continue on N3 South through next interchange to DURBAN
3. Then move to left lane and take next off-ramp 1,5 km further: RAND AIRPORT
4. [Exit 106] At robot T-junction TURN LEFT onto Rand Airport Road = M46
5. Continue past next robot – road passes under bridge and later curves sharply left - airport is visible on right
6. TURN RIGHT at next robot T-junction - still Rand Airport Road
7. Drive carefully around sharp left bend – watch speed limit and continue past school for 1 km to intersection robot
8. TURN RIGHT into Russel Road (Burgerland Roadhouse and shops on corner)
9. TURN RIGHT at next robot (SASOL filling station on left)
10. At STOP TURN LEFT and then sharp right – buses be careful – towards large aircraft
11. Buses should park on left just before large aircraft with SAA colours on tails.
From O R TAMBO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT drive on R24 West
and from Witbank drive on N12 West:
VEER LEFT onto N3 South to DURBAN
Then same as from 2. above
From West and South West on N12 East:
TURN LEFT at Reading interchange (Rocky area) onto R59 North and then as follows:
From Vereeniging on R59 North:
At end of freeway TURN RIGHT at robot T-junction onto South Rand Road (M38).
Proceed about 5 km through some curves
South Rand Road becomes Rand Airport Road (M46)
Then same as from 5. above
From South on N3 North:
Take GREY AVENUE off-ramp [Exit 101]
TURN RIGHT to cross over above freeway
Drive about 1,5 km along Grey Ave (M94) to second robot from freeway
TURN LEFT into Black Reef Road (M37) - this becomes Wits Rifles Drive
* Continue as per last par. below
From East on N17 West:
Drive past Wadeville and take RAND AIRPORT off-ramp – just before toll gate [Exit 127]
At robot T-junction TURN RIGHT into Wits Rifles Drive (M37)
* Smartly keep left very carefully to get into correct lane and pass under freeway
Proceed uphill and pass large concrete water reservoir on left
TURN LEFT at robot
Then as per 10. above
